There’s no doubt about it: Oreo was (and still is) the undisputed cookie of childhood. Whether you wanted a quick snack after school or a classic dirt cake for your birthday party every year, good old O-R-E-O was always there.
Turns out, making an Oreo pie crust is child’s play too. It’s so easy to make, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start making amazing Oreo desserts sooner. Here’s what you need to get started.
Oreo Pie Crust Ingredients
- Oreos: You’ll need 18 classic Oreo sandwich cookies for this Oreo pie crust recipe. And there’s no need to scrape out the filling—it’s what makes this recipe so easy!
- Butter: We always recommend a good butter brand so your dessert is the very best it can be.
Directions
Step 1: Crush the cookies
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F and greasing a 9-inch pie plate. Plop the cookies in a food processor and pulse the cookies until coarse, ground crumbs form.
Editor’s Tip: Our favorite (and the fastest) way to make Oreo cookie crumbs is in a food processor, but if you don’t have one, place the cookies in a large resealable bag and work ’em over with a rolling pin until crumbs form. No rolling pin? Try a can!
Step 2: Mix in the butter
Pour in the melted butter, and pulse the mixture until everything is well-blended.
Editor’s Tip: If you’re making the crust by hand, place the cookie crumbs in a bowl and work in the butter with a fork or rubber spatula.
Step 3: Press the mixture into a pie plate
Press the mixture into the bottom and up the sides of the prepped 9-inch pie plate. Bake the crust for 15 minutes, then cool it completely to room temperature on a wire rack.
Editor’s Tip: Use your fingers, a baking tamper or a 1/4-cup measure to firmly pat your Oreo pie crust into the pie plate.
Recipe Variations
- Go gluten-free: Yes, Oreo has come out with a gluten-free version of their famous cookie sandwich. Simply use that version instead to make this Oreo crust for pie gluten-free.
- Make it vegan: Did you know Oreos are vegan? This happy accident has had plant-based eaters rejoicing since the news broke. Swap in this vegan butter for the butter so you can use this crust recipe to make vegan pies and desserts.
- Use a different Oreo flavor: Oreo makes a ton of different flavors, like peanut butter, toffee and mint, for their classic cookie. Just avoid Double Stuf Oreos; the extra cream will throw off the dry-to-wet ratio and make the pie crust very greasy.
Can you make an Oreo pie crust ahead of time?
Yes, this Oreo crust for pie can be made in advance. Cover the crust tightly with storage wrap and keep it in the fridge for up to three days. Or, store it in the freezer by adding a layer of aluminum foil over the storage wrap for extra security against freezer burn. The crust can keep in the freezer for up to three months. Thaw it in the fridge overnight or on the counter for an hour.
